Fire crews battling blaze on Michigan Street near Monroe in downtown South Bend

Traffic is largely blocked in downtown South Bend while fire crews battle a blaze in the 500 block of Michigan Street.

The fire was reported just after 7:15 a.m.

Michigan Street traffic is blocked between Monroe and South streets while crews work to extinguish the fire, according to Lt. Gene Eyster with the South Bend Police Department. Monroe and South streets are also closed in the immediate area.

Northbound traffic on Michigan Street should head west and take Lafayette Boulevard to get around the fire. View the map below to see where traffic is blocked and a route to get around the fire.

Eyster told 95.3 MNC that firefighters may be on scene for several hours.
