Principal eulogized as loving leader who put children first

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett says an elementary school principal who was struck and killed by a school bus while pushing students to safety was a hero long before that act.

Hogsett told those who filled St. Luke’s Methodist Church on Saturday that Susan Jordan was a hero because she dedicated her entire life to students. He says she did that because she believed those children would grow up to make the world a better place.

Jordan’s daughter, Lisa Jankowski, thanked those at the service, saying she and her sister, Amy Dinwiddle, were honored by the show of support for their mother. She said her mother would have been floored by the service because she wasn’t a “spotlight lover.” She says her mother loved to shine the light on others.
