WARREN, Mich. (AP) — A man credited with saving the life of a stabbing victim outside the General Motors Tech Center has been honored by a Detroit suburb and given a $1,000 gift certificate to a jewelry store.

Didarul Sarder was working as a valet supervisor last week when he pulled his gun and ordered a woman to drop a knife. The 52-year-old victim is expected to survive.

Sarder told reporters that he would do it again. He received a proclamation Thursday from the city of Warren, a gift certificate from Elegant Jewelers and praise from police. Mayor Jim Fouts doubts Stephanie Kerr would have survived without Sarder’s help.

Sarder has a concealed pistol license, although the GM Tech Center is a gun-free zone. Fouts says he intervened to ensure Sarder keeps his job.
