As the freezing rain turns into snow, travel conditions are getting worse throughout northern Indiana and southern Michgian.

A travel advisory was issued for St. Joseph, Elkhart and LaPorte counties as the flakes fell on Tuesday afternoon, March 1. That means drivers should use extreme caution because roads could be hazardous.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for LaPorte and St. Joseph counties in Indiana and Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan until 1 a.m. Wednesday, March 2.

About 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected to fall in South Bend, while northern Berrien County could see up to 6 inches and areas south of South Bend will likely see lots of rain and only about an inch of snow.
