Goshen double homicide suspects plead not guilty

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) — Two men charged with murder in the deaths of two men found fatally shot at a northern Indiana mobile home park entered not guilty pleas during their initial court appearances.

Twenty-two-year-old Diego Ramos and 19-year-old Luis Rivas are charged with killing 27-year-old Jose Nava-Orozco and 43-year-old Marco Carmona-Gonzalez, who were found shot to death in Goshen early on March 13.

Goshen police say they believe the shootings were motivated by gang violence.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Vicki Becker on Thursday requested a joint trial for Rivas and Ramos. The Elkhart Truth reports that after the hearing, Rivas’ attorney, David Francisco, would not say whether he would seek a separate trial. Ramos does not yet have an attorney.
