Hotel planned for former College Football Hall of Fame site to be bigger, more expensive than originally planned

Plans to turn the former College Football Hall of Fame into a hotel with retail space are getting bigger and more expensive.

The Courtyard by Marriott hotel was originally expected to include 120 rooms and ground-floor retail space at a cost of $10 to $12 million, but the South Bend Tribune reports that updated plans included 20 more rooms and a cost of $12 to $14 million.

The South Bend Redevelopment Commission agreed Thursday to give the project an additional $500,000 to help pay for relocation of nearby utility lines and services. The city’s total investment is $1.2 million.

Construction is expected to begin this summer and the hotel will be complete in summer 2017.
