Child molestation charges filed against LaPorte man accused of abusing 10-year-old girl

A LaPorte pan was arrested after police say he had a sexual relationship with a 10-year-old girl he knew for more than a year.

John Furaitar, 57, was charged with five counts of child molesting, each level 1 felonies. The charges carry a combined maximum sentence of 200 years in prison. 

Furaitar is accused of engaging in sexual acts with the girl beginning in July 2015 at his home and in his van, the Northwest Indiana Times reported. He is not related to the victim but knew her through one of her relatives.

He was arrested after Child Protective Services was notified about the allegations. Furaitar is beind held at LaPorte County Jail on $100,000 bond.
