BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The Benton Harbor school district has been ordered by a federal judge to pay a company about $2.8 million for unpaid services.

The Herald-Palladium at St. Joseph reports Saturday that the ruling against Benton Harbor Area Schools was made Monday.

Maryland-based Sodexo Management Inc. has said it provided custodial, grounds maintenance, repair and other services to the district from July 2011 through Nov. 10, 2014.

The company ended its contract with the district in 2014.

The district and state forged a consent agreement last year after Gov. Rick Snyder determined there was a financial emergency.

Consent agreement consultant Gregory Weatherspoon told the newspaper Friday that the district will “have to borrow the money.”

Weatherspoon says school board members could discuss the ruling Tuesday.
