Kyle Treber's guilty plea accepted in connection to Granger house party

A St. Joseph County judge accepted a plea deal from a Granger man charged in connection to a house party attended by two Granger brothers the night before they died.

Kyle Treber pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a narcotic drug on Thursday morning, April 14, according to court records. In exchange, three counts of dealing a narcotic drug were dropped.

Treber had previously entered plea deals in January and February, but St. Joseph Superior Court Judge Jane Woodward Miller rejected the deals because she wanted no restrictions on sentencing.

Prosecutors said Treber brought OxyContin, a brand name for oxycodone, to a house party in Granger on July 13. He was found suffering from an overdose in the home on July 14 and was revived.

Brothers Nick and Jack Savage, who were 19 and 18 respectively, were found dead in their home on the morning of July 14. They both attended the party. Coroners ruled they died from a mixture of alcohol and oxycodone.

Treber’s charges were not directly related to the Savage brothers’ deaths because prosecutors said it was possible the Savage brothers got ocycodone from a different source.

Treber is scheduled to be sentenced May 27.
