Man accused of assaulting woman for hours sought by St. Joseph County Police

A man accused of confining a woman in her St. Joseph County home, assaulting her and threatening to shoot her, her child and himself is being sought by police.

Douglas Eric Wood, 39, is believed to be armed and dangerous and was last seen driving a green 1990s Acura, our news partners ABC 57 reported

The woman told police that Wood, whom she knew, had confined her in her home west of South Bend and beat her several times, ABC 57 reported. At one point, he threatened to shoot her, her child and himself.

Eventually, the woman was able to escape the house and sought help from a utility worker near the corner of Crumstown Highway and Peach Road. She was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Wood has a history of violent crimes. Anyone who sees him is encouraged to call 911 immediately.
