More than 21 truckloads of storm debris were collected by South Bend city workers by Tuesday night, and crews are continuing to collect fallen trees and branches Wednesday.

A severe storm on Monday caused several trees, tree branches and power lines to fall into yards, houses and streets throughout northern Indiana and southwestern Michigan. In South Bend, the south and northwest sides of the city were hit hardest, according to city spokeswoman Kara Kelly.

The city hopes to have most of the large limbs picked up by Wednesday evening and will continue collecting storm debris on Thursday.

South Bend residents who have downed branches should place them curbside for pickup. Bundles should be tied with twine and should be no larger than 30 inches in diamater.

If residents still have limbs and storm debris to be picked up by Monday, Kelly said they should call 311 between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to request a special pickup.
