St. Joseph man killed, woman injured in Stevensville crash Thursday

An 87-year-old man is dead and his 83-year-old wife is hospitalized in critical condition following a crash in Stevensville, Mich., on Thursday morning.

Alberto Schroeder of St. Joseph, Mich., was driving a car west on Linco Road when he pulled out in front of another car heading north on Cleveland Avenue, Lincoln Charter Township Police said.

Police believe that Schroeder may not have seen the other vehicle.

Emergency responders used the jaws of life to rescue Schroeder and his wife from their car and rushed them to Lakeland Hospital.

Schroeder was pronounced dead at the hospital Thursday afternoon. His wife remains in critical condition.

The driver of the second car was treated at Lakeland Hospital for non-deadly injuries.

All three people were wearing seat belts and the airbags were deployed during the collision.

Police are still investigating the crash.
