The two men killed during the Berrien County Courthouse shooting will be honored during a candlelight vigil in St. Joseph, Mich., on Tuesday night.
The vigil in honor of bailiffs Joe Zangaro and Ron Kienzle will began at 9 p.m. at the John E.N. Howard Bandshell at the corner of Lake Boulevard and Port Street, according to our news partners ABC 57. A vigil for Kienzle will be held at his home in the 400 block of Dale Avenue in Benton Harbor at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Zangaro and Kienzle were shot to death by 45-year-old Larry Darnell Gordon, a county jail inmate who was trying to escape, Sheriff Paul Bailey said. Gordon fought with Deputy James Atterberry Jr. between a holding cell and a court room on the third floor of the courthouse. Gordon shot Atterberry, Zangaro, Kienzle and an unidentified woman before he was shot and killed by two other bailiffs.
Zangaro and Kienzle died at the scene. Atterberry and the woman were hospitalized after the shooting and are expected to recover.
