INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A special prosecutor says he has found no evidence that one of Indiana’s largest beer distributors improperly funneled more than $1.5 million in campaign contributions.
Former Indiana Inspector General David Thomas was appointed earlier this year to review allegations against Monarch Beverage. The Indianapolis Star reports that Thomas said in a Wednesday report that he won’t bring any criminal charges against the company.
Monarch Beverage CEO Phil Terry says the company is satisfied with the report’s conclusion and described its political activities as “legal” and “fully disclosed.”
The allegations were made by the Indiana Beverage Alliance, a group representing Monarch’s competitors. The group accused the company of sending money to elected officials via a small limited liability company to avoid corporate campaign contribution limits.
