Driver killed in US 20 crash near Rolling Prairie identified

A fatal crash involving as many as three vehicles resulted in the closure of eastbound U.S. 20 is closed between SR 2 and 600E, near Rolling Prairie.

Crews were called to the scene around 7:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9.

As many as three vehicles were involved, according to a tweet from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

Lawrence Williams, 50, of LaPorte is believed to have crossed the center line, according to investigators.

One driver was able to swerve out of the way, but rolled his vehicle. Williams then hit another vehicle head-on, investigators said.

Two other people were injured, but will be okay.
