Autopsies show 3 in northwestern Indiana died of multiple stab wounds

SUMAVA RESORTS, Ind. (AP) — The Latest on the slayings of three people in northwestern Indiana (all times local):

6:10 p.m.

A coroner says three people found dead in a rural northwestern Indiana home all died from multiple stab wounds.

Newton County Coroner Scott McCord said the autopsies for 20-year-old Justin L. Babbs, 23-year-old Richard Thomas and 39-year-old Kimberly Spears were performed Monday afternoon in Lafayette.

Police arrested a Cedar Lake man in connection with the slayings. Sheriff’s Capt. Shannon Cothran says 24-year-old Sebastian Wedding is being held without bond at the Newton County Jail on a preliminary murder charge. It was unclear if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

A spokeswoman for the county prosecutor says the office is still investigating the killings and has not yet filed formal charges.

Officers responding to a 911 call of a bleeding man found the victims.

Police have arrested a man in connection with the slayings of three people found dead in a rural northwestern Indiana home after their elderly roommate discovered one of them bleeding.

Newton County Sheriff’s Capt. Shannon Cothran says 24-year-old Sebastian Wedding of Cedar Lake was arrested in connection with the killings of the two men and a woman. Wedding is being held without bond at the Newton County Jail on a preliminary murder charge and it was unclear if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

A spokeswoman for the county prosecutor says the office is is still investigating the killings and has not yet filed formal charges.

County Coroner Scott McCord said all three were victims of trauma. He said autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.

Northwestern Indiana police have released the names of three people found slain in a rural home.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Department says in a news release that the victims are 20-year-old Justin L. Babbs, 23-year-old Richard Thomas and 39-year-old Kimberly Spears. All three were residents of Sumava Resorts, an unincorporated community about 35 miles south of Gary.

The sheriff’s department says police were called to a home Sunday night by an elderly woman who told dispatchers that there was a bleeding man in her home.

Officers arrived to find that man dead and the bodies of the two others inside the home. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday afternoon to determine how the victims died.

Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with those slayings.

A northwestern Indiana sheriff says an arrest has been made in connection with the slayings of three people.

Newton County Sheriff Thomas VanVleet tells WLFI-TV (http://bit.ly/2bQYZqY ) that 24-year-old Sebastian Wedding has been arrested in connection with the killings of two men and a woman whose bodies were found dead in a home at Sumava Resorts, an unincorporated town about 35 miles south of Gary.

Wedding is being held at the Newton County Jail on a preliminary murder charge.

Police found the bodies of two men and a woman at a home in northern Indiana and their deaths are being investigated as homicides, a coroner said Monday.

Officers responding to a 911 call of a bleeding man found the three bodies around 8 p.m. Sunday at a home in the community of Sumava Resorts, about 60 miles south of Chicago.

Newton County Coroner Scott McCord said there was “no suicide associated with this.” The Newton County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to an email seeking information.

An officer found a 20-year-old man dead in one room while the bodies of a 23-year-old man and a woman in her 30s were discovered in an adjacent bedroom, the coroner said. They were victims of trauma, he said.

McCord said autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday. He had no other details and said the victims’ identities would be released once their families have been notified.
