The Dowagiac Police Department has made an arrest in the armed robbery of the Marathon/All Star gas station that occurred on Monday, Aug. 30.

Officers were called to the gas station in the 800 block of Spruce Street on the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred, according to a news release from Dowagiac Police.

Officers continued to investigate leads and information received from the public and, on Wednesday, were able to pinpoint a suspect, Christopher Rhodes, 30, who is on parole for an earlier armed robbery conviction that also occurred in Dowagiac in 2005, the news release stated.

Officers contacted a Michigan Department of Corrections agent who was able to locate the suspect in Coloma, Mich.

The DOC agent and officers from Coloma Township Police located Rhodes as well as evidence from the robbery, the news release stated.

Rhodes was lodged at the Cass County Jail and has been charged with armed robbery, larceny and several weapons-related charges.

Dowagiac Police are working with detectives with the South Haven Police Department to determine if Mr. Rhodes was responsible for an armed robbery of a gas station that also occurred on Monday night prior to the one in Dowagiac.

This incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dowagiac Police Department at (269) 782-9743, or the Cass County Tip Line at (800) 462-9328.
