Multiple reports of gunfire being investigated in Elkhart, Goshen

Officials with both the Elkhart Police Department and Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department are investigating two separate shooting incidents in recent days.

Elkhart Police officers heard gunfire wile patrolling the 200 block of South Nappanee Street a little after 6:30 p.m Monday, according to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

Police discovered shell casings on the 1600 block of West Lexington Avenue, along with damage to the exterior and interior wall of a home a block down the road, according to police spokesman Sgt. Chris Snyder. Witnesses told police a passenger in a stopped gray passenger care fired a handgun out the window.

In a separate incident, the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a report that a bullet damaged a home on the 59800 block of CR 19 in Goshen just a couple days earlier on Friday around 7 p.m. The bullet went through an upstairs window and wall of the home, according to the Elkhart Truth.

No word on arrests in either incident.
