Irish fans already at the game against Nevada had a mostly smooth commute to the home opener.

There were some slowed lanes as the Smart Streets project continues, and the new roundabouts made a straight shot to Notre Dame Stadium just about impossible. But there weren’t any road closures, according to our reporting partners at ABC 57.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg says he’s glad the roadways were ready for the football season.

When the project is compete, the city of South Bend hopes that more tourists to Notre Dame will make their way downtown.
