A LaGrange County Deputy is being credited with saving a choking 7th grader on Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Corporal Cliff Hibbs of the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department was on hand for a special breakfast and program organized by the Lakeland Middle School Student Council to honor local law enforcement, when he noticed 7th grader Caleb Eash having trouble breathing.

The boy was choking on some food, according to authorities.

Deputy Hibbs used the Heimlich Maneuver to dislodge the food from the boy’s windpipe, saving him.

He was evaluated by the school nurse and was able to resume classes for the rest of the day.
