GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A former postal carrier in western Michigan who was accused of stealing gift cards and cash from residents on his route has pleaded guilty to federal charges.

WOOD-TV reports 26-year-old Alexis Odelin of Wyoming pleaded guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids to theft of mail contents by a U.S. Postal Service employee.

Court documents say Odelin stole $452 worth of gift cards, cash and other valuable items from the mail he was supposed to be delivering. Earlier this year, Odelin was confronted on camera by an angry resident who tracked him down about a missing gift card.

Odelin was hired by the Postal Service in October 2015, three months after he was convicted of shoplifting.

Odelin has resigned from his job. Sentencing is scheduled Jan. 23.
