The Elkhart County Republican Party has chosen its nominee for County Treasurer.

The Clerk-Treasurer for Goshen, Tina Bontrager, will be on the ballot on Nov. 8th to replace Jackie Meyers, who passed away Sept. 13 due to cancer. Bontrager was picked in a caucus Friday, according to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth.

Larry Ernest is filling out the remainder of Meyers’ term. He used to be Elkhart County treasurer, but had to step down in 2013 due to term limits.

Bontrager has served most of four terms as Clerk-Treasurer in Goshen. If she wins, she’d follow City Engineer Mary Cripe out the door as another high-ranking Goshen official that has left.

She will have to defeat Greg Burtsfield of Elkhart, who is the Democratic nominee.
