Elkhart Police looking for SUV that fled scene of hit and run

A crash in Elkhart left five people hurt and police looking for who caused the wreck.

The crash happened after 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of West Franklin and 5th Streets, according to the Elkhart Police Department.

Police discovered a Lexus that had the driver’s side smashed in extensively. The five passengers in the vehicle, including four children, were treated for minor injuries at Elkhart General Hospital.

The vehicle that hit the car had reportedly blown a stop sign and crashed into the vehicle. It then left the scene northbound on South 5th Street, then fled east on High Street, according to police.

The vehicle is described as a white, GMC Jimmy driven by a white male. There is damage on the front bumper and grill area of the SUV.
