An Illinois man has pleaded guilty to murdering 24-year-old Brandon Jackson of Elkhart.

Tyrell Beavers also requested a sentence of 45 years in prison, which is the minimum sentence for murder under Indiana law. His sentencing will take place Nov. 17, according to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth.

It was back on June 23 when police were called to the 200 block of West Garfield Avenue on the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found the front door of the apartment open.

Inside the apartment, they found the body Brandon Jackson, 24, of Elkhart, according to court documents.

Beavers and three others intended to rob Jackson after buying marijuana off him the previous day. Beavers shot Jackson after the victim went for his own gun, according to court documents.

Joemongee White, 19, had a murder warrant issued for his arrest on Sept. 21.
