A South Bend woman is in jail after being trying to smuggle drugs into a prison over the weekend.

38-year-old Michelle Barnes was arrested Sunday at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City. Barnes was trying to bring drugs to her brother, Terrence Ford, who is serving a murder sentence, according to Indiana Department of Corrections officials.

Officers searched Ford after the visit, where officials discovered marijuana in his possession.

Barnes was arrested by a Correctional Police Officer for trafficking and transported to the La Porte County Jail for booking. She’s facing up to 8 years in prison and a possible ten thousand dollar fine.
