18-year-old man arrested on attempted murder charge after shooting

An 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting of an Elkhart man last week.

The shooting happened around 10:20 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17 in the 600 block of  McDonald Street.

The 20-year-old victim told officers he was walking in an alley between Congress Street and McDonald Street when he was shot. He says he then ran to a nearby home and asked the residents to call for help, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of South Bend where he was treated for non-life threatening gunshot injuries, Snyder stated.

On Saturday, Oct. 22, detectives arrested Rasheed Buynum McDavis, 18, on a preliminary charge of attempted murder, Snyder stated.

McDavis was taken to the Elkhart County Jail where he was being held without bond.
