The man who was shot last Wednesday afternoon outside of Carriage House Apartments on Burr Oak Avenue in Elkhart has died.

35-year-old Jarius Lewis passed away on Sunday, Oct. 23, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department.

The shooting escalated from a domestic dispute inside one of the apartments, according to Snyder.

A relative, Leon Lewis, was arrested last week for firing a gun inside the apartment, but he is not the man who shot Lewis. He’s also accused of grabbing his girlfriend’s hair and hitting her in the face during the domestic dispute, Snyder stated.

Lewis was kept on life support pending an organ procurement.

An autopsy on Jarius Lewis is scheduled for Tuesday. The case is now being investigated as a homicide.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Elkhart Police: 574-295-7070 or the Tip Line 574-389-4777.
