It was a joyride that ended with a bang…and a few arrests.

Elkhart County deputies were called to Johnson St. south of Borg Rd. at about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday morning after getting a report of a crash, according to the Elkhart Truth.

A 2011 Chevrolet had driven into a utility pole, but by the time officers arrived, no one was inside. After officers got a tip that two juveniles were wandering around in his yard, another woman told police that her 1995 Nissan had been stolen and that there were “five or six” teens in the area at the time.

Two teenage boys, a 16-year-old from South Bend and a 17-year-old from Elkhart, took off from officers when they found near the Walmart on C.R. 6. The chase didn’t last long and the two were taken into custody on charges of illegal consumption of alcohol and resisting law enforcement.

A 14-year-old Mishawaka girl was also located at the Wal-Mart. She was reported as a runaway and was arrested, then released to her mother.

Finally, a 16-year-old girl that possibly was the one driving the Chevy that crashed was arrested. An Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department spokesman wouldn’t confirm that she as involved with the crash, nor did he confirm the three other teens arrested were involved, either.
