Two men from Elkhart arrested for passing out at woman’s home

Two Elkhart County men are in the Kosciusko County Jail after one broke into a home and was found sleeping on a couch while the other slept in a car in the home’s driveway.

On Tuesday Jan. 10, county dispatch received a call from a woman that said a man was passed out on a her porch and another man was asleep in a car in her driveway.

When an officer arrived at the residence, he saw a black Chevy Impala in the driveway with a male still in the passenger seat of the vehicle. The caller explained to officers that when she came home she saw man sleeping on her porch and a man asleep in the vehicle in her driveway. The woman went to a phone booth to call police to inform them about the two men at the home. When the woman returned from making the phone call, the male was no longer there, according to court records.

She asked officers to check the her home to see if the man was inside.

The officer located the man inside the home, asleep on the woman’ couch. He was identified as identified as Andrew Thomas, 27, of Elkhart.

The officer removed Thomas from the home and handcuffed him. Thomas was searched and the officer found a plastic bag containing marijuana, as well as a .38 caliber revolver.

Another officer checked on the a male in the driveway, identified as Steven Caradea, 28, of Elkhart.  Police searched Caradea’s vehicle and located a Smith & Weston 9mm semi-automatic, a BB gun, .38 special ammunition,  a Taurus magazine pouch and marijuana.

Officers spoke with a neighbor who said she had talked to two males and they said they’d run out of gas.  They told the woman they had called a friend who was supposed to be on the way with gas.

Both the .38 caliber revolver on Thomas and the 9mm handgun found in Caradea’s vehicle had been reported as stolen.

Thomas was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Tuesday afternoon on charges of possession of marijuana, theft and residential entry.  His bond is set at $5,250.

Caradea was also booked Tuesday afternoon for felony theft. His bond is also set at $5,250.
