Two sent to the hospital after crash near Dowagiac

Two crashes in Dowagiac had officers tied up Monday morning. The first crash was minor in nature, but the second one resulted in injuries.

It all happened on M-51 south of Dowagic, according to the Dowagiac Police Department.

A small pick-up truck appeared to lose control on the icy road and veered into the on-coming path of a car. The two vehicles collided.

A 15-year-old passenger in the truck had to be extricated from it afterwards. He was taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hopsital in Dowagiac. The driver had to be taken to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph. The elderly occupants of the other car were treated at the scene.

Dowagiac officers blame icy road conditions for the crash.
