Mishawaka residents could be paying more for water and sewer in the coming years.

That’s because city officials are weighing major water and wastewater projects, and how to pay for them, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The average monthly utility bill could be raised by $5 every month, according to John Julien, an accountant whose firm, Umbaugh & Associates, advises Mishawaka Utilities.

A Mishawaka Utilities customer using 5,000 gallons of water in home every month could end up paying an extra $33.24 every month compared to what they pay today. Commercial and industrial rates would also rise by a similar ratio.

Mishawaka city officials began discussing the possible increase last week. They’ll discuss it again at the Mishawaka City Council meeting Monday night. Approval for the hikes could come later this year.
