Mishawaka is celebrating the city’s rich history in the shoe industry.
City leaders and members of the Youth Advisory Council unveiled giant Red Ball Jet shoe sculptures over the weekend, paying tribute to the Ball-Band factory and the footwear that helped earn Mishawaka the nickname “Shoe City USA.”
The students raised more than $100,000 through private donations to fund the project, with no taxpayer money used.
One of the colorful sculptures is now on display at Ironworks Plaza, honoring the generations of workers who helped build Mishawaka’s manufacturing legacy.
