Real estate prices surging in Elkhart County

(Sam Householder/Elkhart Truth)

It’s a seller’s market in Elkhart County as real estate transactions have surged and prices are being pushed up as a result.

Ten-year highs in home sales and fewer home listings are helping to drive up sale prices in Elkhart County, according to the Elkhart Truth.

In 2016, the average sale price of a home was up about $13,000 to nearly $151,500 dollars. There had been a steady rise since the post-recession low of $98,000 in 2009 and 2010.

Part of the new figure is being attributed to a dearth of new home listings, with just over 2,600 last year, the fewest since 2003, as well as the highest growth in sales figures since 2006.

State data shows an 8.1-percent rise in the number of home sale contracts signed from 2015 to 2016 in Indiana.
