Police in LaPorte County are asking for the public’s help locating a man suspected of beating his estranged wife.

Deputies with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department were called to the Family Express gas station at State Road 2 and Fail Road on Monday evening, March 6, where the victim had gone to call for help after she said her estranged husband, David Lane, 46, forced his way into her home and beat her. The victim also told deputies Lane threatened her with a gun and threatened to harm himself by committing “suicide by cop.”

The victim was treated for her injuries at LaPorte Hospital.

Police conducted a search for Lane in the area.

On Tuesday afternoon, Lane’s vehicle was located in the 4500 E. block of Scholl Road. Police set up a perimeter and conducted another search, using a police K-9 and a helicopter, but they were not able to locate Lane.

Lane is being sought for battery causing serious bodily injury and burglary while armed with a deadly weapon. He is described as a white male, 5’10”, 160 pounds with a gray/brown receding hair line.

He is considered armed and dangerous.

Anybody with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact 911.
