Benton Harbor Payless ShoeSource location among 400 to close

Another national retailer with ties to Michiana is closing stores.

Payless ShoeSource has announced it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, with plans to close about 400 stores.

The only store in Indiana that is closing is in Terre Haute, according to a list released by the company.

However, 10 are closing in Michigan and one of them is in Benton Harbor’s Orchards Mall.

Payless joins chains like hhgregg, Gordmans, Family Christian Stores and MC Sports, all of which have local stores and have filed for bankruptcy.

Brick-and-mortar retailers are blaming websites like Amazon and eBay for their troubles.
