Osceola strikes deal with Penn Township for 911 services

A big question mark with a community’s safety in the balanced was erased Tuesday night, as Osceola struck a deal with Penn Township for their 9-1-1 service.

Osceola agreed to pay Penn Township $244,000 for those services, and already owes Penn Township $81,000 to cover services provided so far this year, according to the South Bend Tribune.

Business owners say not having an adequate fire department has already cost them more in insurance rates.

The agreement states that Osceola is keeping all of their fire equipment and the fire station, and the council president says the town plans to sell the equipment and possibly renovate the station.

Council members intend to pay Penn for services for two years, and then look to create a fire territory of their own.
