An Elkhart man is going to prison for stabbing his pregnant girlfriend to death.

31-year-old Israel Ordonez-Calixto was sentenced to 75 years in prison for murdering his live-in girlfriend in August 2016. He remained silent during his hearing this week, according to ABC 57.

Savanna Best was found wrapped up in a blanket in the apartment she shared at Old Farm Apartments on Mishawaka Rd. Calixto went to the northeast U.S. for a few days, according to court documents.

Calixto reportedly admitted to a friend during the trip that he killed Best, who was pregnant at the time. Police believe she was stabbed to death on August 18.

Calixto admitted in court that he murdered Best, but also claimed to be in a drug-induced haze at the time, only remembering an argument beforehand and finding her dead afterwards.
