An Elkhart man has admitted to pleading guilty to stabbing his pregnant girlfriend to death in his apartment before taking a vacation.

31-year-old Irael Ordonez-Calixto’s guilty plea to a single county with murder comes with a 10-year sentence enhancement for ending a pregnancy. That means he faces 50 to 70 years in prison when he’s sentenced on April 27, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Savanna Best was found wrapped up in a blanket in the apartment she shared at Old Farm Apartments on Mishawaka Rd. Calixto went to the northeast U.S. for a few days, according to court documents.

Calixto reportedly admitted to a friend during the trip that he killed Best, who was pregnant at the time. Police believe she was stabbed to death on August 18.

Calixto admitted in court that he murdered Best, but also claimed to be in a drug-induced haze at the time, only remembering an argument beforehand and finding her dead afterwards.

So she could kill her baby and it would be legal but he gets an additional 10 years for it…We make no sense as a society.

And when did ‘drug induced haze’ become an actual defense levied in court?

Anyone call ICE?
