Merrifield Pool vandalism could keep pool closed for 2017

Vandals have caused damage at Mishawaka’s Merrifield Pool this week.

Mishawaka Police say the vandalism happened sometime between Monday afternoon and noon Wednesday.

The vandals reportedly cut two long portions of the liner while also damaging another section when two metal poles were thrown onto the pool floor.

Mishawaka Parks Superintendent Phil Blasko says the liner would cost $300,000 to replace, and he says that’s not an option. He says he’s looking on a way to repair the liner.

If it’s not repaired, the damage threatens to keep the pool closed in 2017. That would cancel many summer events, including DJ Night, Swim Under the Stars, and Movie Night.

If you have any information on the vandalism, contact the Mishawaka Police Department at 258-1678 or the Mishawaka Parks Department at 258-1664.
