Woman dies in Friday morning crash in South Bend

For the second consecutive morning on Friday, a woman died in a fatal crash in South Bend.

An unidentified woman was driving on State Road 23 around 1 a.m. Friday when she struck a utility pole just south of Douglas Road. That utility pole was damaged in the crash but there was no word of any outages.

Officials believe speed may have been a factor and St. Joseph County police are investigating with the Clay Fire Territory and the county coroner’s office.

State Road 23 was closed for several hours, but it reopened before the morning commute.
