Elkhart city leaders continue to chew over dog park details

(Sam Householder/Elkhart Truth)

There are still a few bones to be chewed before the final decisions can be reached for Elkhart’s dog park.

There are still questions to be answered before the plans can move forward, including when it should open and how insurance coverage should be handled, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The park has been tabled while the Public Health and Safety Committee, the Elkhart City Council, and the Parks Department wrestle with the last of the issues.

The $110,000 Dr. Booth Bark Park is roughly 18 percent finished at High Dive Park on East Beardsley Avenue, and will include different off-leash areas for both small and large dogs. It should be ready by the end of June, after water hookups and restrooms are finished.

No decision has been reached on whether or not the city’s insurance would cover the park.
