A Silver Lake man has taken a plea agreement after allegedly exposing multiple women to HIV.
37-year-old Travis Spoor has pleaded guilty to three counts of malicious mischief in three cases on allegations he failed to disclose his disease to his sexual partners. Under the plea agreement, the other three counts will be dropped and the maximum time Spoor can spend behind bars is three years.
The arrests began in 2016, when the first victim met with an Indiana State Police trooper. The victim said she had unprotected sex with him four times and her friend had told her Spoor was sick. She said Spoor was taking “a lot of pills,” according to court records. Spoor sent text messages denying he was HIV-positive.
The Times Union reports the most recent charge against Spoor resulted from an incident in March when a woman met and slept with Spoor, who was using a fake a name on Match.com.
Spoor allegedly posed as a man named Ray Hilderman on the dating site. But when he left his wallet behind after meeting with one woman, she discovered he had lied about his name, according to court documents.
The other women who came forward told similar stories. They met Spoor online, he told them a story about how he lost his arm, and slept with them without disclosing his disease.
The plea agreement covers all of Spoor’s Kosciusko County charges, which date to February 2016. Judge David Cates set sentencing for July 3.
Still, Spoor still faces similar charges in three other counties.
He is due in court in Marshall County on June 22. According to Spoor’s lawyer David Kolbe, they are working toward a resolution in that case.
Spoor is scheduled for two other jury trials: Aug. 22 in Allen County on four counts of malicious mischief and July 25 in Wabash County.
