Elderly woman identified as victim of scooter crash in South Bend

South Bend Police responded to a fatal crash Thursday morning.

The collision happened on Eddy Street at Sunnymeade in front of Jefferson Intermediate shortly before 8 a.m. and involved a car and a scooter.

The victim on the moped, 74-year-old Joyce Menzie, died at the scene. Officers say Menzie tried to cross between two stopped cars and entered into the path of a car going the other way.

The driver and passenger of the car weren’t hurt. Drugs, alcohol, and speed were not factors.
