5-year-old girl on bicycle hit by car in Warsaw

A 5-year-old girl on a bicycle was struck by a car in Warsaw Thursday night.

The accident report from the Warsaw Police Department says the driver was coming down N. Columbia Street approaching the intersection with W. Pike Street when she saw the girl out of the corner of her eye.

The girl was struck and landed in the road against the tire of a parked car, according to the accident report. She sustained substantial injuries to her face, but they are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Warsaw Police tell News Now Warsaw that Lutheran Air landed a chopper at the Marsh parking lot to airlift the child to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

The driver of the car told police the girl was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

Bicycle helmets will help you when falling off a bike…not necessarily when getting hit by a car.
