A woman is facing six arson charges after a fire at Eagle Lake Estates near Edwardsburg left five mobile homes uninhabitable.
Court documents say Carrie Gifford allegedly arrived after firefighters responded to the October 21st fire and told investigators, “I did it. I started the fire.”
Investigators say Gifford told them she was having a mental breakdown and described setting the home she rented on fire before leaving. Three homes, including the one she rented, were reported as total losses. Two others were badly damaged, and officials have not determined whether they can be salvaged.
Gifford is charged with five counts of second-degree arson and one count of preparing to burn a dwelling.
