New Carlisle’s economy may need reconstruction due to an ongoing U.S. 20 project.

For the last two months, U.S. 20 at the town’s railroad underpass has been shut down. This means drivers have to take long detours around town, and away from town business.

Construction was supposed to be done at the beginning of June, but delays mean the project could linger for another three weeks.

Not only that, but emergency crews have been hampered as well. New Carlisle Fire and EMS Chief Josh Schweizer told ABC 57 that some emergency calls take four times as long to get too, and sometimes four times as many miles because of the U.S. 20 closure.
