South Bend School Corp. leaders looking to improve school bus service

South Bend School Corporation leaders are hoping for fast improvements this summer regarding the district’s transportation woes.

Board members have approved spending more than $17,000 for a consulting firm, School Bus Consultants. The firm will make recommendations on how to make the district’s routes more efficient and, leave no child behind, or late, as a result.

The transportation department also wants to purchase 19 new buses, equipped with rear stop arms and other enhanced features that would improve safety and comfort for the kids onboard.

Board members are expected to vote on the proposals for the new buses during their meeting next month.
