Seven months after his child was found wandering the streets of South Bend, the man who allegedly let him go free has been arrested.

Nicholas Williams is accused of letting a 4-year-old boy walking near the intersection of Slater and Armstrong Drives in November 2016. The temperature was 45 degrees and the boy was only wearing shoes and pajamas, according to ABC 57.

The child was returned to his Stewart Drive home, and Williams answered the door. He claimed the child was his girlfriend’s and also claimed he didn’t know the child was even home at all. The boy’s mother disagreed, saying she left the boy in Williams’ care when she left for work.

Williams was booked in St. Joseph County jail Monday on $1,500 bond.
