A kayaker and a would-be rescuer are hospitalized in serious condition after they were rescued from the Eel River Sunday.

According to the News-Sentinel, a kayaker, a 31-year-old man from Warsaw, fell into the river just before noon Sunday after trying to cross over the Collamer Low Head Dam.

A 25-year-old Syracuse man then tried to save the kayaker, but he was also pulled into the river’s current.

Another rescuer was able to bring both men to shore and performed CPR. They were then transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center.
