A Gary man is accused of robbing an Elkhart man at knifepoint at an ATM.

Shortly after midnight Wednesday morning, 55-year-old Ricky Dates allegedly approached a man in the 300 block of South Main Street.

Elkhart Police say the victim gave up the money along with his vehicle, which had been left running.

Just a couple minutes later, Dates allegedly sped by them, crashed his vehicle in the 300 block of West Lexington, and ran. He was eventually found hiding behind an air conditioner in the 200 block of South 4th Street.

He’s charged with robbery, auto theft, and leaving the scene of a crash. He’s also facing warrants for his arrest in Lake County as well as the Parole Board.
